What is the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) ?
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) provides financial support for people living with a disability. It’s a whole-of-life approach tailored to each person’s needs and goals. Supports are provided for people with permanent and significant disability to achieve their goals, participate in their community, and be part of the workforce.
If you are over 65 and require in-home supports, we are able to assist Participants to move smoothly between NDIS funded or aged care funded supports.
What Supports do the NDIS Provide Funding For?
Allocated NDIS funding depends on the needs of the individual Participant. The NDIS will fund supports that are reasonable and necessary and will assess individuals looking for assistance under the following circumstances:
The support offered has to relate to the disability of the Participant.
Funding does not cover costs unrelated to the disability support needs.
Support must be a good value for money.
Support can only be given if it will benefit the Participant.

NDIS supports will also consider the support offered by the Participant’s family,    home carers, community and their wider network.

Who is eligible for the NDIS ?
The NDIS offers financial support to Australians, who live in Australia, between the ages of 9 and 65 who are facing disability due to permanent impairment. We can become impaired in various ways including physically, emotionally, intellectually, neurologically and/or psychosocially.
Financial support from the NDIS can be used in different ways to best support living with a disability. These supports may be disability-specific to the individual or resources for the family or carers to help their loved ones in need.
Eligibility to participate needs to be ascertained based on:
- Age: Participants need to be between 9 and 65 years of age (for children under 9, Early Childhood Partners can provide support and help gather evidence of disability or developmental delay)
- Citizenship: Participants need to be Australian citizens, or permanent residents or hold a protected special visa
- Residence: Participants need to be permanently living in Australia
- Needs: Participants must have a disability caused by permanent impairment
How To Apply for NDIS Funding
Applications to participate in the NDIS are made directly with the NDIA (National Disability Insurance Agency). Applications can be made in writing via an Access Request Form online, or verbally by speaking directly with an NDIS advisor, by calling 1800 800 110. The NDIS also offer additional help with the application process, including interpreter services, help with connecting to relevant community partners and partner offices.
